Event Breakdown

HYROX Format: 8 Workouts, 8km Running

Each station is standardized across every HYROX event worldwide — your training applies whether you're racing in New York or Amsterdam.

Sled Push
100m sled push — 152kg men, 96kg women. Load your legs and grind through the resistance.
💡 Keep your chest up and drive through your heels
Sled Pull
100m sled pull — 80kg added weight. Set your core and pull using your legs and lats.
💡 Alternate hands without pausing for maximum efficiency
Burpees
80 burpees over a 20cm wall. The double-edged sword of HYROX — grueling but pure stamina.
💡 Control the descent — depth matters more than speed
Rowing
1km rowing. Pace this like a runner, not a rower — hit your split and hold it.
💡 Long strokes at lower rate to preserve grip for what comes next
Farmers Carry
200m farmers carry — 24kg men, 16kg women. Strong grip carries you through the final stretch.
💡 Small steps, tight core, never let the bells swing
Lunge
300m walking lunge — 20kg vest men, 10kg women. The longest station. Pace it like a marathon mile.
💡 Step long, control the descent, and never skip the hip flexor stretch
Wall Balls
200 wall balls — 9kg men, 4kg women. The crowd roars, the arms burn, you keep moving.
💡 Squat deep every rep — efficiency beats intensity here
Racing
Every station ends with a run. Your running economy is your HYROX ceiling.
💡 Hold back on the first 3km — the race is won in the last 1km

FAQ

Common Questions

Quick answers to the questions athletes ask most about HYROX races.

What’s the difference between HYROX divisions (Open, Pro, Doubles, Relay)?
Open is the standard division for every athlete. Pro requires a sub-60:00 Open finish at a previous HYROX event. Doubles splits the 8 stations between two athletes. Relay splits them between four.
How long does a typical HYROX race take?
Most finishers complete the Open division in 60–90 minutes; elite/pro athletes run 50–60. Doubles and Relay are typically faster on a per-person basis.
Do I need to qualify to enter a HYROX race?
No qualification is required for the Open division. The Pro division requires a sub-60:00 Open finish at a previous HYROX event.
What’s included with my HYROX race entry?
Race bib, timing chip, finish-line photo access, post-race recovery zone, and a finisher shirt. Coaching and training plans are not included.
How should I train for my first HYROX race?
Build a running base first (8 km total volume), then layer in station-specific strength work (sled, wall balls, lunges). Allow 8–12 weeks for a confident first race.
When should I arrive on race day?
60–90 minutes before your wave start. That gives you check-in, warm-up space, and time to walk the start corral.
